In year 2, our Downtown strolling market was launched to function as an economic development tool and a community gathering place in order to promote locally grown and handmade products, highlight downtown Ortonville, and encourage visitors to patronize nearby businesses. Our goals are to:

  • Make fresh produce available to residents because there are limited options in the area.
  • Create additional opportunities for people to come & enjoy downtown on a regular basis, thus fostering a sense of community and improved quality of life.
  • Combine this with other events and entertainment for all ages in an attempt to keep people downtown, discovering our businesses, and spending their money locally.

The State of Michigan has determined that farmers markets are among critical infrastructures that can remain open while non-essential businesses have been temporarily suspended.

With the continued guidance of the CDC, Michigan Farmers Market Association (MIFMA), Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development (MDARD), and the local county health department, our goal is to bring fresh produce, plants, hygiene products, and cottage food items to Ortonville this season.

Kozy Farms & Spratt Farms are willing to supply our community with all their hometown harvest needs. Both farmers are looking forward to submitting their applications for the second year of the market.

Phase In Plan:

  • PHASE 1, the Downtown Ortonville Farmers Market will start out small (up to 5 vendors), highly manageable, and more socially-distanced than any other market.
  • PHASE 2 will be implemented as restrictions are relaxed and we see we can successfully stay highly manageable, socially-distanced, and fill spaces with essential and non-essential vendors.
  • PHASE 3 will be deployed as we are successful fulfilling PHASE 2, and feel we can continue to stay highly manageable and socially-distanced per current restrictions and guidelines at the time.
  • Location: 2 Main Produce Vendors & then up to 13 additional traditional Farmers Market vendors for 15 spots total will be located on Mill St. between Church St. & South St., then turning the corner down South St. (See location map for each phase)
